How do I upload my CV?

To upload your CV:

  • Save the CV on your PC as a .doc or .rtf format file
  • Log into your Graduate Broker account using your email address and password
  • On your account page, scroll down to Update CV and click on the select files tab.
  • Click on the browse button – you will be prompted to search your PC or Disk for your CV
  • Once selected, click Open. This will now store your CV.

I would like help uploading my CV as I am having problems.

The formatting may get changed by the upload process or the CV rejected completely if it has complicated formatting in it. To ensure the layout of your CV is compatible with our system, please follow the guidelines below.

  • Keep the layout of your CV as simple as possible.
  • Avoid ‘unnecessary’ decorations
  • Avoid the use of Text Boxes: these do not convert well into simple text or html formats, sometimes becoming blank.
  • Avoid the use of graphics. Again these will not appear in simple text or html versions of your CV. They also make the MSWord documents very large.
  • Avoid using multiple tabs to arrange text, instead use a single tab with the correct tab setting. In the text version the tabs may convert to varying numbers of spaces. In html format the multiple tabs may force the text to wrap unpredictably over multiple lines.
  • Avoid using tables
  • Avoid using bullet points
  • Avoid using multi-column page layouts.
  • Avoid multi-sectioned documents.
  • Don’t password protect your CV
  • Don’t embed other documents.
  • Keep your CV aligned to the left

However, if you still experience concerns then may we suggest changing it to a Rich Text File (.rtf) and then try again to upload it. Saving documents as a Rich text file (.rtf) instead of a word document (.doc) often works if the file isn’t uploading.        

How do I edit my CV?

To modify a CV you have stored on your Account, you must first make any changes on the CV document saved on your own PC. Alternatively, you may wish to create a new document. Once the changes are done, you can upload the new CV. Any previously stored CV will be overwritten as a result.

To change or edit your details you will then need to login to your Graduate Broker account:

  • Log into your Graduate Broker account using your email address and password
  • On your account page, scroll down to Update CV and click on the ‘select files’ tab.
  • Click on the browse button – you will be prompted to search your PC or Disk for your CV
  • Once selected, click Open. This will now store your updated CV.

Why has the formatting of my CV changed?

There are normally 3 reasons why a CV rejects from our site, or does not display correctly. It is either the content, the format, or it is the cookies / cache files on the computer that needs to be cleared.

The majority of recruiters who use our site state that they prefer to receive CV’s with only basic formatting in either Word, text or HTML formats. With issues such as CV formats the site cannot work differently for every single recruiter, so we have to go with a system that suits the vast majority.

File formats compatible are:

  • All versions of MS Word for Windows
  • MS Word 4.x-5.1 for Macintosh
  • MS Word 3.x-6.0 for DOS
  • WordPerfect 5.x
  • WordPerfect 4.0 for DOS
  • Works v3.x-4.0
  • Lotus AmiPro 3.x for Windows
  • MS Write 3.x
  • WordStar 3.3-7.0 for DOS
  • WordStar 1.0-2.0 for Windows
  • ClarisWorks
  • Rich Text Format
  • HTML Format
  • Plain text files
  • PDF – We do accept PDF files but these are automatically converted into a Word document

Application Help

How do I apply for an advertised position?

To apply for a position you have seen on our site click the ‘Apply Now’ button on the advert. This will take you through to an application page that gets sent automatically to the employer, to which you attach your CV. If there is not an ‘Apply Now’ button on the advert, then the recruiter will normally provide you with other application instructions.

My application is listed as “Applied for on recruiter’s website”. What does this mean?

Graduate Broker is not a recruitment agency or employer. We simply advertise the vacancies on behalf of our clients who include recruitment agencies and direct employers.

In this case the Recruiters have decided not to use our application form and have included a link to their own website. If you are having problems using the Recruiters website you would need to contact them directly as we are unable to support other websites than Graduate Broker.

How can I check on the progress of my applications?

If you require personal feedback on any of your applications, you need to contact the recruitment agency or employer who advertised the vacancy on Graduate Broker.

Some recruiters publish contact details on the vacancies they advertise which you can view by simply:

  • Logging onto your Graduate Broker Account.
  • Going to the My Applications tab, located on the left hand side of the My Account page.
  • Click on the link to view a full list of your applications.
  • The name of the recruiter will be listed here. You will then be presented with the recruiter’s contact details if they have chosen to make them available. Unfortunately, we don’t hold any details of what is happening to your application so it is only the recruiters that will be able to help you here.

How I can amend or withdraw my application?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to amend an application once it has been sent to the Recruiter.

Graduate Broker is not a recruitment agency or employer – we simply advertise the vacancies on behalf of our clients who include recruitment agencies and direct employers.

Once an application has been made via our site, your CV and your covering letter are sent directly through to the Recruitment Agency or Recruiter and we play no further part in the recruitment process. Therefore in order to amend any application, it would be necessary for you to make contact with the Recruiter directly and discuss this with them.

Their contact details can be found by clicking on the ‘My  Applications’ button in your account and then clicking on the Recruiters name. If the Recruiter has included these details they will be located within the vacancy. As this is an online service – some recruiters don’t list a telephone number or email addresses, so we would suggest that you put the company name into a search engine and try to find their contact details this way.

General Help

I would like to work in the UK and wish to know about work permits

We are not a recruitment agency or employer. The best analogy is to think of us as a Multi Sector Career portal – we simply advertise the vacancies on behalf of our clients who include recruitment agencies and direct employers. We therefore have no control over the regulations imposed in the country for the need for work permits and visas.

We are aware that many recruiters are not willing to sponsor candidates for work permits and will give preference to suitable candidates who are already authorised to work in the UK. It is entirely up to the discretion of the recruitment agencies and employers who advertise on our site as to whether they will assist with this process.

You would need to contact the recruiters to whom you wish to apply to find out if this is the case with them and we wish to advise that we do not hold information on recruiters who offer this service.

Why are there only 50 jobs listed in my Jobs-by-Email?

If you use a Yahoo email address to receive your Jobs-by-Email, then you may have noticed we have limited the number of jobs you receive to a maximum of 50. We have done this to ensure you receive it in your Inbox.

Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people out there who like to send lots of SPAM email. Apart from annoying you, it also means the ISPs, like Yahoo and others, build in SPAM filters to stop your email box getting clogged up. Unfortunately, these can sometimes be a little over-zealous and pick up our innocent emails.

To ensure our emails get to you, we have reduced the number of links contained within them. We display the top 50 matching vacancies in the email and provide a link to view the rest on the website. This should help ensure you get your email each time relevant jobs are added to the website.

How can I unsubscribe from Graduate Broker emails, or from the site entirely?

We have a couple of ways that you can unsubscribe from your emails.

Every email that we send you will contain a link that will take you to your subscription page, where you will be able to control the type of email we send to you, or to unsubscribe to our services.

Alternatively, you can unsubscribe by selecting the My Account tab at the top of your account.

On the left hand side it says If you wish to delete your account on Graduate Broker, please click here to complete our contact form letting us know your registered email address and that you wish to be removed from the site.

My Account Help

I would like to change my registered details.

To change your details such as your email address or your password, you will need to login to your account page:

To change either your email address or password simply:

  • On the ‘My Account’ page scroll down to the Email or Password boxes
  • Enter the new details
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Update Profile’ button

Your details will now have been altered. You will need to use this new information the next time you wish to login to your account.

I have forgotten my password – how can I access my account?

Please use this link. Please check that the password reminder email is not being redirected to your Junk or SPAM mail folder.

Please be aware that we can only send a password reminder to you if you have registered with us.

Why can’t I log in?

There are a few possibilities as to why you are unable to log in; hopefully something below will solve your problem.

Please ensure that you are logging in on the Candidate side of the website

  • Go to the Graduate Broker homepage
  • Select the Login button that is located at the top of the screen.
  • Enter your email address and password.
  • Select the Login button.

Are you using the correct email address and password when logging in? To receive a password reminder, please use this link.

It could be due to a possible problem caused by your temporary internet files. To fix this you need to:

  • Be in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
  • Under the heading Temporary Internet Files, click on Delete Files.
  • Once the operation is complete, click on Delete Cookies.
  • Under the heading History, click on Clear History.
  • Click on OK.
  • You will now need to close all internet windows you have open and shut down your internet browser.
  • Reopen your internet browser, log back onto Jobsite and the log in problem should be cleared.

How do I remove my account?

To remove an account from Graduate Broker you need to email our customer support team and we can remove the account.

How do I register on Graduate Broker?

Graduate broker is not a recruitment agency or employer. What you can do is use Graduate Broker to search for suitable positions, and then apply for these using the online apply function.

The two main services Graduate Broker offers candidates to help them with their job hunt are the Job Alert service, and the online CV database

If you would like to be emailed about suitable job vacancies that are posted onto the website, you can set up a Job Alert search profile in your online account.

The online CV database enables recruiters to view candidates CV’s and then contact you directly if they have any vacancies that may be of interest to you.

To register on Graduate Broker and to start receiving Job Alerts, please visit our site at:

How many jobs do you have advertised?

The number of jobs advertised on Graduate Broker is constantly changing, with lots of jobs added each day by the recruiters who advertise with us. We update this number on the homepage every 24 hours to reflect how many individual job adverts are on the site.

How do I find jobs relevant to me?

To see the most relevant jobs to you, fill out the job search box on our homepage with your preferred sector and key words to best describe the job role. We will then show you a list of all the best matching jobs we currently have advertised. You can set up job alerts via email and we will contact you each time suitable jobs are advertised on Graduate Broker.

How can I find out more information about a vacancy?

To find out more information regarding the vacancy you will need to contact the recruiter directly. You will need to go to the original job ad, which should include the recruiters contact details if they have provided us with this information.

If they have included these details, they will be located either within the vacancy or on the left hand side within the Recruiter Information Box. As this is an online service – some recruiters don’t list a telephone number or email addresses, so I would suggest you put the company name into a google search and find them this way.

I have had a message come up referring to cookies, what does this mean?

For those of you who only know a cookie as a rather tasty biscuit the following explanation may help you to understand the problem you’re having a bit more:

A cookie is a small bit of information that a web server can store temporarily within your browser. A common use of cookies is to store information entered into a form so it does not need to be re-entered on subsequent visits.

Having a problem with cookies may mean that you can’t view a page, enter the site, or go back a step when searching without re-entering your details. The following steps will enable your PC to accept cookies:

  • In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Security tab.
  • Click the Web content zone you want, and then click Custom Level.
  • Under Cookies, click the options you want, click OK, and then click OK again.
  • The options that will need to be selected are;
    • Enable cookies that are stored on your computer
    • Enable per session cookies (not stored)
    • Enable automatic logon only in intranet zone

How do I save jobs that I am interested in?

If you’re already a Graduate Broker member, you can Save jobs for later reference. Saved jobs are stored in the ‘My Account’ area. On the left hand side there is a ‘My Saved Job’ tab. This is where saved jobs will be stored.

To save a job that you’re interested in, simply click the ‘save’ button when viewing the job. You will be asked to type in your login and password before the job is added to your Saved jobs.

To delete jobs that you have saved, go on to ‘My Saved Jobs’ and click the red x that is alongside the job details.

To view the jobs that you’ve saved on the Graduate broker website, log in and click the ‘My Accounts’ page tab. Click on ‘My Saved Jobs’ then click on the job you wish to view.

How can I upload a CV using my mobile device?

We can confirm that CVs can be uploaded from both smartphones and tablets as long as it is in Word and is smaller than 1MB in size.

You will need to have them in one of the listed cloud services: google drive, dropbox, skydrive, or box.

My Account Help

I have forgotten my password, and cannot access my account.

If you are registered with us and you forget your password, you can request a reminder of the created password to be sent to the email address registered on your account.

From the home page, select the Recruiter Login option and under where you would normally type your email address, there is a link “Forgotten your password?”. If you enter your email address, you will be sent a reminder of your password to your email address.
